From its construction in 1894, in memory of philanthropist Thomas Coats, the former church has seen a lot of history and been through many changes. From its start as the largest Baptist church in Britain, the building has since fallen into disrepair and transformed with a renovation funded by a community fundraising campaign to become the stunning and all-welcoming hosting space it is today.
With a breath-taking nave with seating for 1000, a large ballroom below and an eight-arched crown spire, it is truly the most unique and unforgettable venue hire in Paisley. Along with the smaller function rooms and catering kitchen, we offer a ‘ready to go’ venue for events of all types and sizes.

The story of how this historic building was saved
The stunning Coats Memorial Baptist Church was completed in 1894. It was commissioned by the family of Thomas Coats and designed by Hippolyte Blanc. The initial cost estimates were between £20,000 to £36,000. The final cost was some £120,000; equivalent to approximately £13 Million pounds in 2026 terms.
It served as a Baptist church until 2018 when the decision was taken by the trustees that due to rising costs and greatly reduced church membership that the church must close. The last service took place on 12 August 2018.
In attendance that night was Ian Henderson, a local businessman and a few of his friends. After the service they agreed that leaving the building to fall into ruin should not be allowed to happen and from that moment work began to devise how it could be saved and re-purposed.
A charitable trust was formed and the group comprised of Ian, Angela McKeefery, Tom Johnston, Sheenagh Gray, Graeme McGowan, David Nairn, Sandy Stoddart, Ken MacDonald and Matt Hillin began the task of raising the funds required to convert the former church into the wedding venue you see today. They were supported in this by two of the church trustees Bob McIntyre and Allan Driver and by numerous members of the public who generously gave both time and money to safeguard the building.
It took 3 years of hard work to create the venue and open the doors for business. Throughout this time the driving force and achieving the vision for what was possible was led by Ian.
It is thanks to Ian that Coats Paisley has been preserved for future generations to cherish and enjoy.

Gothic Revival, or Neo-Gothic, is a style that became widespread during the Middle Ages, eventually coming to rival the classic style of architecture that was so prevalent in the latter half of the 18th century. As an extension of the Gothic style, and an attempt to bring back its characteristics, Gothic Revival touched upon everything from architecture to literature and can be found across Scotland and Europe.
Typically used for church and collegiate architecture, the Gothic Revival style was popularised by English playwright Horace Walpole and his home at Strawberry Hill.
Across the 18th and 19th century, the style continued to spread and, over time, became the basis for a long list of Architectural approaches, such as Carpenter Gothic, Tudor Gothic and Victorian Gothic.
Many iconic structures across the UK were constructed or take inspiration from the Gothic Revival style, such as:
